Automotive Technology - ASE First Year: Advanced Automotive Technology (ASE 1)
HT3P20Y2 Year long course/1.0 credit per semester Students will develop the knowledge and skills needed for repair, maintenance, and diagnosis of vehicle systems. This course teaches the theory of operation of automotive vehicle systems and associated repair practices, with an emphasis on ASE Phase 1/Brakes, and ASE Phase 2/Steering and Suspension. The course prepares students for second year certification in the Automotive Service Excellence program (ASE). Students must complete 15 hours of job shadowing by the end of the first year course to enroll in the second year course, Practicum Auto Tech 2. Second Year: Practicum in Automotive Technology 2: HT4P20Y2 and HT4P30Y2 Year long course/2.0 credits per semester Students will develop the knowledge and skills needed for repair, maintenance, and diagnosis of vehicle systems. The focus of this course is to teach the theory of operation of automotive vehicle systems and associated repair practices, with an emphasis on ASE Phase 3/Electrical Systems and ASE Phase 4/Engine Performance. The course prepares students to test for certification in the Automotive Service Excellence program (ASE). Students enrolled in Practicum Auto Tech 2 will participate in a CCTE approved, non-paid, internship program at a local car dealership.
